Minnesota’s Permit-to-Carry Renewal class is a shorter, state-approved refresher required every five years to renew your permit. Residents may renew up to 90 days before expiration or within 30 days after (late applications beyond 30 days require full initial training). The single-session class reviews current carry laws, prohibited locations, law-enforcement interaction procedures, reciprocity, the legal justification for use of deadly force, and the immediate aftermath of a deadly force incident (securing the scene, 911 protocol, evidence preservation, and investigative process). This is followed by a brief live-fire qualification on the range demonstrating safe handling, marksmanship at self-defense distances, and holster work if required. Upon successful completion, you receive a renewal training certificate (valid one year) to submit with your renewal application to your county sheriff.
